Assyriska vs Sirius Preview and Prediction Swedish Superettan 2016

Sirius hope to take the top spot in the Swedish Superettan with a win over Assyriska on Sunday. We’re expecting both teams to get on the scoresheet on Sunday, and our free betting predictions reflect that.

Assyriska are slowly trying to recover from their torrid time at the beginning of the season, but it’s proving difficult for them. They began their season with a win against Dalkurd as they looked to improve on their 4th place finish in the Sweden Superettan last season, but that success quickly turned sour as they slumped to six straight league defeats.

A win against bottom of the table Angelholm brought them out of the losing streak, but they have still only won two of their last seven matches in the Superettan. Fortunately for them, they have stemmed the bleeding a bit and only lost once during this period, last weekend at Trelleborg.

However, their hopes of improving on a 4th place finish have quickly been replaced by hopes of avoiding a relegation battle. They currently lie in 13th position, three points clear of the automatic relegation spots but a point inside the relegation playoff positions.

Sirius, unlike their opponents, are still confident of improving on last season. They finished in 3rd position last term but couldn’t make it through the promotion playoffs. This season they are hoping to avoid the playoffs all together and achieve automatic qualification. They are currently on track to do so as well, with their 28 point total putting them 2nd in the table, a point behind Halmstad and a point ahead of AFC United.

The visitors are in decent form as well. They have won six of their last eight Superettan matches and only lost one of their last 11 in the league. Away from home they have struggled to pick up wins at times though due to their lack of scoring form. They have managed to find the net in half of their away days this season, but not with the same regularity as they have managed on home turf.

However, they will feel confident of hitting the back of the net against an Assyriska side who haven’t kept a clean sheet all season, but their recent improvements have seen them score in their last three home games. My prediction is for both teams to get on the scoresheet on Sunday, and odds of 4/5 for this outcome look good value. I think the defensive problems of Assyriska may give the visitors a chance though, so I’m backing a 2-1 win for Sirius at 15/2 for my correct score prediction too.

Sirius have won four of their last six meetings with Assyriska and haven't lost to them since 2009.
Both teams have scored in 57% of Assyriska's home games this season, and they have kept a clean sheet 0% of the time.

Assyriska are hoping to have a clean bill of health on Sunday.

Centre back Oscar Pehrsson, midfield duo Christer Gustafsson and Kim Skoglund, and winger Andreas Eriksson are all out injured.
